Paid Carers Leave Must Be Included In New Employment Law Bill

The Alliance Party has called for paid carers leave to be included in a new employment law bill.

Making the call, the party's Economy Spokesperson, Sorcha Eastwood said that carer's leave would enable carers to take a determined number of days out of work to perform caring duties without the stress of trying to juggle employment, having their attendance record affected, or having to use holiday leave for caring.

Man Arrested After Machete Incident In Coalisland
A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an incident in Coalisland on Sunday, 28 April, during a man armed with two machetes was threatening members of the public. The incident occurred in the Derry Road area shortly before 1.45pm.

DoH Announces Expansion Of Eligibility For Covid 19 Treatment
The Department of Health has announced an expansion of eligibility criteria for Covid 19 treatment to include additional goups, following updated guidance from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). The DoH has extended eligibility for treatment with Paxlovid (nirmatrelvir plus ritonavir) to include additional groups.

Man Arrested After Attacking Police Officers In Portadown
A man has been arrested in connection with an incident in Portadown in which a man and four police officers were assaulted. Police received a report of an assault in the Thomas Street area, shortly before 12.50am on Saturday 27th April. Officers attended and located a man, aged in his 20s, with injuries to his head.
