Channel 4 Boss Steps Down
Andy Duncan, who heads Channel 4 television, will step down later this year, it has been confirmed.
Mr Duncan, who has been Chief Executive at the station since 2004, said it was time to "hand on the baton to someone else".
He said he now plans to pursue "fresh challenges".
Mr Duncan faced-down strong criticism during the Celebrity Big Brother 'racism' furore in 2007.
It was alleged some housemates had racially bullied a Bollywood actress, prompting even the Prime Minister to weigh in on the debate, which hit international headlines.
Today, Mr Duncan said the early announcement of his resignation would put an end to "the distracting speculation of recent weeks".
He said he hopes it will mean "a period of stable leadership", while "securing the best possible future" for the broadcaster.
Mr Duncan was at the helm as Channel 4 extended its digital reach, incorporating more channels and greater online functionality.
He said the station's status as a public service network is far more secure now than when he took over.
