Murder Suspects 'Caught' ON CCTV
One week on from the murder of Edward Thompson in London, detectives have released CCTV footage of two suspects fleeing the scene.
Police were called at around 3.45pm on Sunday, 6 September, to reports of a shooting in Amhurst Road, Hackney.
Officers are now releasing footage of the two men as they ran away from Amhurst Road to nearby Pembury Junction and the Pembury Estate.
The victim was a front seat passenger with three male friends in a blue Volkswagen Polo which was stationary in traffic in Amhurst Road, at the junction with Marcon Place.
Two young black men walked alongside the vehicle and approached the open passenger window, firing a shot into the car before running off.
Mr Thompson, 29, of Kingsland Road, Hackney, was driven by his friends to the Homerton Hospital where he later died.
A post mortem examination at Poplar Mortuary on Tuesday 8 September, gave cause of death as a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Detective Chief Inspector John Macdonald of the Met's Homicide and Serious Crime Command, who is leading the investigation, said: "A week on from Edward's murder we are releasing images of two suspects moments after Eddie was killed. They are seen sprinting from the scene towards the Pembury Estate.
"Edward was a family man and devoted to his three young children. We don't know why he was killed as he was a friendly guy whose background would not appear to warrant this type of targeted attack.
"He is desperately missed by his family who need to know why he was struck down in this way," the officer said.
"We strongly believe that those responsible have connections with the local Hackney area and we urge anyone with information to come forward and assist."
In an effort to trace further witnesses a team of detectives returned to Amhurst Road on Sunday 13 September, to distribute leaflets and speak to members of the local community.
Anyone with information is asked to call the incident room on 020 8345 3985; if you wish to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Meanwhile, two men, both aged 20, were arrested in the Hackney area on 7 September and were taken to north London police stations.
They were later bailed to return on a date in October, pending further inquiries.
