Boy's Air Rifle Death A 'Tragic Accident'

The mother of a five-year-old boy who died after being shot with an air rifle while playing in a garden has paid tribute to her late son.

Emma Cooke, 43, from Ealing in London, described her son as "a bundle of joy".

It is believed Jonathan Cooke, known as Joe, was shot while camping with friends in the grounds of a country house, in Fovant, near Tisbury, Wiltshire.

He was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol after the incident took place around midday on Monday, where he died hours later.

Mrs Cooke, 43, said: "Joe died in a tragic accident and we love him to infinity and beyond.

"Joe lit up the room - our little Indiana Jones.

"His death will leave a huge hole in our lives. He will be missed by anyone who knew him, as he touched so many lives.

"We would now request privacy at this difficult time so we can remember our lovely little boy in peace."

It has been reported that Joe was one of five children playing at the house belonging to Bernard and Pamela Allnutt, a couple in their 70s.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: "We are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, but we are not treating it as suspicious at this time.

"A report will be prepared for HM Coroner for Swindon and Wiltshire and we are offering support to the family who have our deepest sympathy."

Local councillor Jose Green said: "It was a horrendous tragedy for the family.

"Fovant has never known anything like this, I would say. It was a tragic accident."
