Car Stolen With Five-Year-Old In Back

A car was stolen earlier this week in Greater Manchester, while a five-year-old boy was in the back.

The incident happened around 1.30pm on Monday, when the 32-year-old woman stopped her grey Vauxhall Astra on Boardman Lane in Middleton.

She left the engine running while she got out momentarily and a man jumped into the car.

It is understood that the man tried to remove the child from the car, but was disturbed by the mother, so drove off towards Manchester Old Road.

The car was abandoned shortly afterwards on Broad Street and the boy was found crying on the street.

The man is described as white, aged between late teens and mid-twenties, about 5ft 9ins tall, with either a balding or shaved head. He was wearing a light grey fleece top, with the hood pulled up, covering his face.

Detective Sergeant Jason Burke of Rochdale CID said: "The ten minutes this little boy was missing were the worst of his mother's life and incredibly distressing for him too.

"Fortunately, he was unharmed, but this could have ended horribly and the person responsible must be caught.

"If you saw anything or know who did this, please contact me."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on: 0161 856 4646 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on: 0800 555 111.
