Postal Strikes Continue Over Pay Row
More than 25,000 postal workers are set to stage a series of strikes over the next few days, as a row over pay and jobs continues.
The Communication Workers Union said that the strikes, which will be take place on Friday, Saturday and Monday, will affect services across the UK, including London, Scotland, the West Country, East Anglia and the Midlands.
The union also said that the strikes would be the largest since the national strike in 2007 and there is a threat of further strike action to come.
Royal Mail drivers are to be involved in the strikes for the first time, with drivers based in Birmingham, Coventry, Essex and London staging a 24-hour strike tomorrow.
Strikes have already taken place in London and parts of Scotland in recent weeks.

Sellafield Workers Join Wildcat Strikes
Hundreds of contract workers at a nuclear site have walked out in support of protests over the use of foreign labour. The wildcat strikes, which broke out last week over an oil refinerys use of foreign staff, today continued to spread as around 900 workers at Sellafield and 300 contractors at Heysham walked out.

Around 5,000 London bus drivers have started a 24-hour strike which is set to cause disruption to thousands of commuters. Thousands of Metroline and first drivers started their industrial action at 3am, in a row over pay.

Man Jailed For Attempted Murder Of Pc
A south London man has been jailed for 25 years for tying to shoot a policeman. Michael Mitchell, 32, of Babington Road, Streatham, was convicted of attempting to murder Pc Shaun Callow, possession of a firearm and possession of drugs with intent to supply.

British Gas workers set to stage strikes
Thousands of British Gas engineers are set to stage five 24-hour strikes over pension rights. The strikes will be held on December 12, 19 and 21 and January 6 and 9, the GMB union announced. The union also announced that out-of-hour cover would also be suspended between December 12 – 23 and January 4 – 10.

Wildcat Strikes Continue As Postal Talks Resume
Talks between the Royal Mail and the Communications Workers' Union (CWU) have resumed as unofficial strike action continued by postal workers in some areas of the country. Around 130,000 members of the CWU participated in official strike action over pay and pensions last week and earlier this week.
