Murder Probe As Taxi Driver Named

A taxi driver, who died after he was found seriously injured at a roadside in Birmingham, has today been named.

Mohammed Arshad, 36, from Birmingham, was found in Wast Hills Lane, Kings Norton, at around 10.50pm on Wednesday.

The father-of-three was taken to Selly Oak Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries on Thursday morning.

His abandoned car, a blue Ford Galaxy, was found a mile away in Shannon Road.

A post mortem examination took place on Thursday, but the cause of death has not been announced.

West Mercia Police have launched a murder investigation.

Detective Superintendent Sheila Thornes, who is leading the probe, said: "We are still very keen to speak to anyone who was in the area of either Shannon Road or Wast Hills Lane on Wednesday night."

She added that police are keen to speak with anyone who remembers seeing the people carrier, or thinks they may have used the taxi during the evening.

"We have recovered the victim's vehicle and forensic tests are being carried out," she continued.

A major incident room has been set up at Reddich police station and house-to-house enquiries are ongoing.
