Robber Guilty Of 'Popular' Policewoman Murder
A robber has been found guilty of murdering Pc Sharon Beshenivsky, who was shot dead during a bungled raid at a travel agents.
Mustaf Jama, 29, has been convicted of the popular officer's murder at Newcastle Crown Court following a retrial after a jury failed to reach a verdict at a trial in January.
He was part of a gang of three which gunned down the officer, and her colleague Pc Teresa Milburn, during the robbery in Bradford in November 2005.
Jama fled to his native Somalia using a friend's passport after the shooting - despite being Britain's most wanted man at the time.
He was smuggled out of Africa in 2007 in an undercover operation.
The 29-year-old admitted one charge of robbery, but was convicted of murder and two further firearms charges.
He was told by a judge he would spend at least 35 years in prison.
Pc Beshenivsky, who had three children and two stepchildren, was responding to an alarm call at the travel agency when she was murdered.
It is understood the robbers believed that up to £100,000 could be inside the premises. The gang terrified staff with a pistol and machine gun, but panicked when they saw police outside.
They escaped with little more than £5,000.
Ringleader Muzzaker Shah and Jama's younger brother Yusuf were caught soon after and both were jailed for life for murdering the officer, and must serve at least 35 years each.
