Arrests Follow Shop Worker's Shooting
Eleven people have been arrested by police investigating the murder of a shop worker in Greater Manchester.
The 27-year-old man was shot at least six times as he stood behind the counter at Brookhouse Wines in Winton, Salford on Saturday night.
The victim – who has not yet been named – was treated at he scene by paramedics. He was taken to hospital where he died shortly after.
A single armed offender walked into the shop and fired the shots before escaping in a blue Mazda, registered M239 NUK, which was later found burned out in Wigan.
Police confirmed they were called to the shop on Brookhouse Avenue just before 9.00pm, following reports a man had been seen with a gun.
Eight men and two women were last night arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.
The 11th suspect, a man, was arrested on Monday.
Det Supt Rebekah Sutcliffe, from Greater Manchester Police, said: "Although we have 11 people in custody we would still be interested in speaking to anyone who can tell us more about this brutal attack on an innocent shop worker.
"This man was just going about his daily work when he was gunned down.
"I'm keen to speak to anyone who may have any information about the people responsible for this attack, particularly anyone who saw the blue Mazda driving away from the shop before it was dumped in Wigan."
She also said this type of incident is extremely rare in the community, adding that the force had referred the case to the Independent Police Complaints Commission but would not explain why.
"Greater Manchester Police and the Serious Organised Crime Agency will be making a joint referral to the Independent Police Complaints Commission," a spokeswoman said.
"It would be inappropriate to comment further."
