Children's Charity Boss In Court Over Child Porn

The boss of a children's charity in Liverpool has appeared in court charged with possessing child pornography.

Matthew Byrne, 37, of Tollemache Street, Wallasey, appeared before Birkenhead Magistrates Court after his home was raided last week.

He also faces charges of false imprisonment, sexual assault and two counts of assault.

Byrne, the director of city centre-based Young person's Advisory Service (YPAS) will next appear before Liverpool Crown Court on 16 July.

Police are continuing to search his house, which they raided at around 1.30pm on Friday. They spent the weekend searching the property.

He was initially arrested following an investigation by officers from British Transport Police, but it was handed over to Greater Manchester Police.

A teenage boy has appeared in court today, charged with the murder of Merseyside schoolboy Rhys Jones. The 17-year-old appeared before Liverpool Magistrates Court charged with the fatal shooting of eleven-year-old Rhys in Croxteth, Liverpool, last August.

Two more arrested over teenager's murder
Two more teenagers have been arrested in connection with the murder of London teenager Paul Erhahon. The pair, aged 15 and 18, were arrested in east London on Tuesday morning. Paul died after being attacked and stabbed outside a block of flats in Leytonstone on April 6. His 15-year-old friend was also stabbed but survived the attack.
