Arrests Follow Nightclub Murder
Four men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died following an incident at a nightclub. The 41-year-old man was injured outside the Liquid and Diva nightclub in Raven Meadows, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, West Mercia Police said. He was taken to hospital at about 12.30am where he died a short time later. The four men men are being held in custody. Police appealed for witnesses to the incident which they said happened on front steps and foyer area. A post-mortem examination was expected to take place on the man later on Monday.
Teen Sexually Assaulted At Farmers Dance
A teenage girl has been seriously sexually assaulted during a Young Farmers Ball at the Royal Highland Show at Ingliston. The 17-year-old girl was attacked near portable toilets near a marquee where the ball was being held, between 12.30am and 1.00am on Saturday. It was just feet from where people may have been queuing to use the toilets. Police said the teenager was not injured however, was extremely shocked and distressed. He attacker was believed to have been part of a group of young men. He was described as being white, in his mid to late twenties and about 5ft 10in tall. He was wearing a dark blue rugby shirt and blue jeans. He also had gelled, messy hair and, a distinctive small nose.
Woman Dies In House Fire
A woman has died after a house fire early on Monday, according to South Wales Police. A spokesman said the woman was found dead at the scene of the blaze at Addison Place, Sandfields, Port Talbot. Mid and Wales Fire Service earlier said one female had left the house before crews arrived. South Wales Police said: "At approximately 5.30am on Monday, 29 June the fire service attended a report of a house fire at Addison Place in Port Talbot. On arrival at the scene a female was found deceased. South Wales Police is carrying out an investigation in conjunction with the fire service in order to establish the cause of the fire."
Halfway Point For Aquatics Centre Roof
Construction of the wave-shaped roof of the London 2012 Aquatics Centre has reached its halfway point. The erection of the 160m-long, 2,800-tonne roof started just three months ago and is considered one of the most complex engineering and construction challenges of the Olympic Park 'big build'. The roof frame consists of steel sections made by a company in Newport, Wales. They are then brought on site and positioned on just three concrete supports. The roof is due to be completed this summer. ODA Chief Executive David Higgins said: "Work on the Aquatics Centre is on track and the sweeping roof that will form the “Gateway to the Games” is taking shape on the skyline alongside the Olympic Stadium." After the Games the venue will provide two 50m swimming pools, a diving pool and dry diving area - facilities London does not have at present.
Police Investigate Stabbing
A 33-year-old man has been stabbed on the street in Peterborough, police have confirmed. A police spokesman said emergency services were called to Garton End Road, early on Saturday when residents reported hearing a commotion. The man was taken to Peterborough District Hospital where his condition is reported as stable. The spokesman said officers believe the victim was attacked by three men and they are trying to trace a silver Nissan Almera seen leaving the scene.

Suspicious Glasgow Car Fires
Detectives in Glasgow's East End are investigating a spate of vehicle fire attacks in the city yesterday. Shortly after 3.30am police were called to a report of a vehicle fire in Ashvale Crescent, Glasgow. Upon arrival police were advised by Strathclyde Fire Service that four vehicles had been damaged by fire.

Heroic Tyne Firemen Honoured
Two Tyne and Wear firefighters are to be recognised for their bravery at a special ceremony today. Andrew Nelson and Allan Richardson will be presented with the Chief Fire Officer's Commendations for brave and meritorious conduct after saving a man's life. The men took part in a dramatic rescue in the early hours of 4 February.

Firefighters launch four-day strike
More than 1,000 firefighters across Merseyside have begun a four-day strike in protest over planned job cuts. Another four-day stoppage is scheduled to begin two hours after the first one ends.

Woman Arrested Following House Fire
A woman aged in her 30s has been arrested following a house fire in Ruabon, Wales. At around 5.08am this morning (27 August), emergency services responded to reports of a house fire in Wynn Avenue, Ruabon. Neighbours were able to help a girl, 10, and a seven-year-old boy from the fire.
