Trio Sentenced For Lloyd Lilley Manslaughter
Three men have been sentenced to a total of 16 years imprisonment each after pleading guilty to the manslaughter of Lloyd Lilley in Mitcham last year.
John William Cotter, 25, of Chillingford House, Blackshaw Road, Tony Coyle, 24, of no fixed address and Ricky Liam Beesley, 23, also of no fixed address pleaded guilty to manslaughter at The Old Bailey on 12 March.
They were sentenced on Tuesday 23 June to 16 years imprisonment and ordered to serve a minimum of eight years.
DI Chris Le Pere from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command said: "The sentencing reflects the extent of just how dangerous these three individuals are.
"Cotter, Coyle and Beesley tortured Lloyd before he died by cutting off his ear and slashing his face.
"We are pleased that these dangerous men have been removed from London's streets for a considerable amount of time and I hope that the conclusion of this case will offer some closure for the Lloyd's family."
Police were called on 25 February 2008 at 7.08pm to Pains Close, Mitcham, on arrival they found Mr Lilley in the street suffering from stab wounds.
Mr Lilley, from Carshalton, was taken to St George's Hospital, Tooting. He later died on 29 February 2008. The post mortem examination gave the cause of death as stab wound to the thigh.
Cotter was arrested at an address in Pains Close on 25 February and was later sentenced as above.
In mid-March 2008, Coyle was arrested and later that month Beesley was arrested in connection with the inquiry. They were sentenced as above.
On 12 March all three pleaded guilty to manslaughter and the plea was accepted.
Also in March, a 33 year old man was arrested, he was later released and no further police action was taken.
