Man Raped By Taxi Driver In Manchester

Police are hunting a taxi driver who raped a 20-year-old man after offering him a lift.

The victim had been walking home in Manchester city centre in the early hours of Sunday when he got into a a silver VW Passatt private hire car, with a taxi sign roof light at Quay Street.

When he arrived at his block of flats on The Quays, Salford, the victim had tried to pay for the journey but the driver refused to take his money.

He then went into the apartment block and waited for his elevator, but was grabbed by the driver and raped in the stairwell of the building, police said.

Det Sgt Julie Connor, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "This was a brutal attack on a young man who has been left feeling traumatised.

"We want to appeal to taxi drivers in the city centre to tell us if they recognise the description he has given of his attacker."

The rapist was described ad being in his late 20s or early 30s, dark skinned, possibly Asian, and of middle eastern or Iraqi appearance.

He was about 5ft 9in tall and slightly overweight with short brown or black hair and unshaven with a beard and brown eyes.

He also wore a brown leather jacket and a dark green jumper.

Unlicensed Minicab Driver Jailed For Killing Passenger
An unlicensed minicab driver has been jailed for eight years for causing the death of a passenger. Matab Uddin, 59, of Blackshots Lane, Essex was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving and fraud. The court heard how police were called on Sunday, 17 November 2013 at about 1:45am to reports of a man injured on Essex Road.

Two arrested over taxi driver shooting
Police investigating the shooting of a taxi driver in Sheffield have arrested two men. Younis Khan, 53, was shot as he drove along Scott Road in Pitsmoor shortly after starting a night shift in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Mr Khan attempted to drive on but lost control of his car, smashing into two other parked vehicles before stopping.

Disturbance link to cabbie murder
Police investigating the murder of taxi driver Mohammed Pervaiz in Huddersfield are investigating the possibility that his death may be linked to an earlier incident in the area. Mr Pervaiz, a 41-year-old father of three from Birkby, was killed while responding to a request for a fare in Field Head, Golcar just before 11:30pm on Saturday night.
