Manchester Drugs Swoop Nets 17 Arrests
Police in Manchester have arrested 16 men and one woman in relations to class A drugs offences.
Several raids were carried out in an operation designed to "smash" the illegal ring, officers said.
Eleven of the arrests were made on suspicion of supplying class A drugs.
The raids, codenamed Operation Chain, have also led to the seizure of substances believed to be heroine, cannabis and amphetamine.
A number of sat navs, ipods, and laptops, along with CS gas, knives and batons have also been recovered
Superintendent Simon Barraclough said: "Making Wythenshawe's neighbourhoods safer and responding to the concerns raised by the community has been at the heart of today's operation.
"We will continue to target those individuals who think that they are above the law, specifically those who look to benefit from the sale and supply of class A drugs.
"We want to make sure criminals are left with no financial benefit from their crimes. We will take their money, their cars and their TVs and music systems."
Today's arrests are the result of an intelligence led operation responding to information from the community.
Detective Inspector Damian Moran, from Wythenshawe CID, said: "I cannot emphasis enough how vital the information provided by the community is to police in the fight against crime. We need this cooperation with local residents to continue."
The 16 men and one woman, aged between 16 and 47, remain in police custody.
