BNP Leader Griffin Pelted With Eggs

British National Party leader Nick Griffin has been forced to abandon a press conference outside Parliament after he was pelted with eggs.

Mr Griffin, who was yesterday elected an MEP for the North West of England, was guided to his vehicle by his bodyguards and promptly drove off.

He had arrived for the press conference on College Green in front of Parliament with fellow-elected BNP MEP Andrew Brons, just before 2.30pm.

Protesters appeared only moments after the BNP leader began to speak, and began shouting "Nazi scum, off our streets" and waving banners which read: "Stop the facist BNP".

Eggs were then thrown at Mr Griffin and his bodyguards, who bundled him away through the crowd.

The BNP's Andrew Brons gained a seat in Yorkshire and Humberside, while the party's leader Nick Griffin was elected in the North West of England region in the European Elections.

It is the first time the anti-immigration party have won seats at national elections.
