Man Remanded Over Mother-To-Be Stabbing

A man has been remanded in custody today, accused of the murder of a pregnant woman who was stabbed to death on her way to work.

Alan McMullan, 53, appeared at Grimsby Magistrates' Court accused of killing 21-year-old Claire Wilson on Pasture Street, Grimsby, on Sunday afternoon.

The Pizza Hut worker, from the town, was seven months pregnant with her first child.

The attack has been described by police as "completely random". Yesterday, flowers were laid at the spot where she was stabbed.

McMullan, of Sherwood Road, Grimsby, was remanded in custody to appear at Hull Crown Court on June 16.

There was no application for bail.

Ms Wilson's partner, Adam Kennard, 23, spent almost half an hour at the scene with a group of 25 family members and friends.

Members of the group left floral tributes, messages, cards and pictures.

One card was left with a pair of red baby shoes.

She had reportedly planned to name the baby girl April.

It read: "Baby April. You would have been the most loved baby in the world.

"Take care of your mum for us."

Officers investigating the incident are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
