Woman Arrested Over Hospital Fluid Bag Damage

A 21-year-old woman has been arrested in relation to damage made to intravenous fluid bags at an Essex hospital.

The woman from Wickford was detained this morning on suspicion of criminal damage and contaminating goods under the public order act and criminal damage.

It is understood about 21 of the bags were found with punctures at Basildon University Hospital on 19 April.

The 21-year-old remains in custody where she is being questioned by police.

Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has since reviewed its storage procedures for fluid bags.

Police have ruled out any links between damage to the bags and the death of a child at the hospital the previous day.

An investigation was launched by police after the three-year-old girl died in the hospital.

However, detectives now say the child died of natural causes and there is no link to the damage.
