BNP Leader 'Will Not Attend Queen's Party'

The leader of the British National Party (BNP) has said he will not be attending a Buckingham Palace garden party.

Nick Griffin said he had "no wish to embarrass" the Queen.

Greater London Assembly member Richard Barnbrook had intended to bring his party leader along as his guest to the Queen's reception this summer on 21 July.

However, Mr Barnbrook had been warned his nomination to attend the event would be reviewed if he chose to bring the right-wing party leader.

Speaking outside the Houses of Parliament in London, Mr Griffin said his party could have earned a "great deal of publicity" by attending the function, but would not want to embarrass the monarch.

Appearing on Sky News, the BNP leader said it was a shame others had turned the incident into a "political stunt".

London Mayor Boris Johnson also accused the BNP of exploiting the Buckingham Palace garden party for publicity.
