Teen Remanded Over Footballer Stabbing

A teenage boy has appeared in court today charged with the murder of a promising footballer, in east London.

The 13-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared before Redbridge Magistrates' Court in relation to the death of Jahmal Mason-Blair.

The case was adjourned and the boy was remanded in custody to appear before Redbridge Magistrates' Court on 3 June.

A date for trial has been set for 24 June.

The 17-year-old, from Dalston was stabbed in the neck in Hackney, early on Saturday and died at the scene.

Jahmal, of Colvestone Crescent was found by police during a routine patrol in the early hours.

The 17-year-old, who was a pupil at Hackney Free and Parochial School - a specialist sports college - had been given a trial at Reading Football Club.

Jahmal is the ninth teenager to die in violent circumstances in London this year.
