Man, 26, Charged With Woman's Murder
A 26-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a disabled woman from Essex who died from stab wounds. Jennifer Macaree, 62, also known as Jennifer North, died in hospital after being attacked in Hadley Grange, Harlow, near the flat where she lived. Scott Riley, of Parsonage Lane, Harlow, has been charged with her murder, Essex Police confirmed. The victim was found in her Vauxhall Corsa car.
Five Men Face Drugs Charges After Body Found
Five men have been charged with drugs offences after a man’s body was found on a rural road in Carmarthenshire. The five people were charged with conspiracy to cultivate and supply cannabis, while three have also been charged with perverting justice. One is also accused of intending to supply the drug. The dead man, who is believed to be Vietnamese, was found near Horeb, Five Roads, Carmarthenshire. Police had been given several names for the man's identity but none has yet been confirmed.
Car Stolen In Dundee Attack
A 29-year-old man has been assaulted and had his vehicle stolen in an attack in Dundee. Police are appealing for two men, believed to have assaulted the man in the Castle Green area of Broughty Ferry at around 9.45pm on Thursday. He suffered minor injuries, but managed to get help from passers by. His attackers then made off in his red Vauxhall Astra, registration number R986 XMS. One of the attackers was in his 30s, about 6ft tall, had short fair hair and was wearing a dark blue boiler suit with the top half tied around his waist. The other was also in his 30s, about 5ft 6in tall, tanned, skinny and was wearing a brown jacket and pale jeans.
Thirteen Arrests After Play-Off Maych
Thirteen people have been arrested by West Yorkshire Police over public order offences following the League One semi-final play-off match between Leeds United and Millwall. A huge security operation was launched at Elland Road on Thursday night. Police said the arrests had been made both inside and outside the ground after incidents of public disorder. A police spokeswoman said it is not clear yet whether those arrested were Leeds or Millwall fans. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, giving Millwall aggregate 2-1 away win and a place in the Wembley play-off final.
Police Investigate Merseyside Blast
An investigation is underway in Merseyside after an improvised device was thrown at a house in the Litherland area. Police were called after the device was hurled at the front door of the property on Cambridge Avenue last night. There were no injuries in the blast which caused minor damage to the front door, Merseyside Poice said.
OFT Asked To Investigate Proposed Acquisition In Defence Sector
Gareth Thomas, the Minister for Trade and Consumer Affairs, has asked the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) to investigate the proposed acquisition of QinetiQ's Underwater Systems Division by Atlas Elektronik UK. A Special Intervention Notice under the Enterprise Act 2002 has today been issued requiring the OFT to provide a report considering whether the transaction gives rise to any national security concerns. The OFT will invite comments from interested parties and submit its report by 29 June 2009.

Lee Bradley Brown, 39, from east London, died on Tuesday after he was taken to a Dubai police station where he was allegedly assaulted and put into a cell. It has been reported that Mr Brown, was arrested over a row at the luxury hotel Burj Al Arab hotel.

Man Arrested Over Kent Doctor's Murder
A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a doctor in Kent. Consultant paediatrician Dr Victoria Anyetei, 54, was found in her car in the driveway of her home in Dartford on August 14. She had been stabbed to death. Kent Police said that the man was arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Dartford.

Mobile Customers To Share £1m Refund
Mobile provide EE is to refund around £1m to a number of customers wrongly charged VAT between October 2012 and October 2014. It is understood that EE customers who travelled outside the EU during those dates and used internet data were affected by the charges. The company estimated it as being about 0.5% of its customers.

A police officer and two civilian police employees have been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of Thomas Orchard, who died a week after collapsing while in police custody. Mr Orchard (32) was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence on 03 October 2012 and taken to Heavitree Road Police Station in Exeter.
