Probe After Baby Dies From 'Head Injuries'
A major police investigation is underway after a baby girl died in hospital following a "significant head trauma" in Merseyside.
The seven-month-old child was admitted to hospital following an incident at a house on Dentons Green Lane, St Helens, but died two days later on 7 May.
Detectives are treating the death as suspicious. A post mortem revealed the girl, whose identity is yet to be released, had suffered "significant head trauma".
A 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault when the baby was alive; he was later released on bail.
A woman in her 20s was interviewed under caution but not arrested.
Nobody else is being sought in relation to the baby's death.
"Detectives are treating the death as suspicious and enquiries are continuing," a police spokesman said.
Forensic teams were working at the terrace property for two days last week.
