Met Officers Arrested In Expenses Fraud Probe

Three Metropolitan police officers have been arrested over allegations they made inflated expenses claims while investigating the July 7 bombings, Scotland Yard has said.

The officers were arrested on Tuesday in connection with a number of offences including misconduct in a public office, conspiracy to defraud, theft and false accounting.

Meanwhile, three members of the public - thought to be relatives of the officers - were arrested yesterday, in relation to offences allegedly linked to the misuse of corporate credit cards.

The case has been passed to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

A Met spokeswoman said: "Three police officers were arrested yesterday following a proactive operation by the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards - Specialist Investigations Unit.

"The offices, two of whom are based in a Specialist Operations unit and one of whom is based on an east London borough, were arrested in connection with a number of offences including misconduct in a public office, conspiracy to defraud, theft and false accounting.

"Three members of the public were also arrested as part of the operation. All six are currently in custody."

The spokeswoman added: "The MPS [Metropolitan Police Service] expects its staff to behave professionally, ethically and with the utmost integrity at all times.

"Any allegation that the conduct of our officers has fallen below this standard is treated extremely seriously in line with MPS policy."
