Toddler Dies After Being Struck By Fairground Ride
A two-year-old boy has died after being struck by a fairground ride, when he crawled onto the tracks of a mini-rollercoaster in north London.
The toddler died on Tuesday evening, following the incident at Ducketts Common in Turnpike Lane, London.
It was reported he managed to leave the bouncy castle where he was playing and get on to the rails of the Go-gator ride where he was struck.
He was with his father at the time, police said.
A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: "Police were called at about 7.45pm yesterday to reports of a child fallen from a fairground ride at Ducketts Common, Turnpike Lane, N8.
"Local officers and the ambulance services attended."
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is investigating the incident, and a post mortem examination is due to take place.
HSE examiners (pictured) visited the scene after being alerted by the local authority at around 9pm last night.
Ray Smith, a spokesman for the funfair, said: "Nobody saw the little boy until the train hit him.
"The emergency brake was applied but it was too late.
"Every child that goes to a funfair should come home from the funfair."
He added that the Manning family who run the fair had been in the business for 150 years.
"They have never had a serious injury in all that time," he said.
No arrests have been made in relation to the incident.
