The incident happened on Saturday at around 7.30pm. Police believe the two men got out of a silver Lexus that had stopped outside the Co-Op shop on Haughton Green Road.

The men, who were armed with a gun and knife, went into the shop and demanded cash from staff.

The men escaped in the car, which was driven by a third man, towards Mill Lane.

Some cash was stolen in the incident but no one was injured.

Both men were dressed in dark clothing and had their faces covered.

Detective Constable Jason Pickles from Tameside CID, said: "I would appeal to anyone who may have been out over the bank holiday weekend and who might have seen the incident or the men in the car at any point to call police."
