Stephen Hawking 'Very Ill' In Hospital
One of the world's leading scientists, Stephen Hawking, is understood to be "very ill" in hospital.
Professor Hawking, 67, who has motor neurone disease, had "been unwell for a couple of weeks".
A spokesman for his employer Cambridge University, said he was undergoing tests at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge.
Professor Hawking, who worked at Cambridge’s Department of applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics for more than 30 years, developed motor neurone disease while studying in the 1960s.
He speaks with the help of a voice synthesiser.
"Professor Hawking is very ill and has today been taken by ambulance to Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge," said the University spokesman.
"He is undergoing tests. He has been unwell for a couple of weeks."
Prof Peter Haynes, head of the University's Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, said: "Professor Hawking is a remarkable colleague.
"We all hope he will be amongst us again soon."

Reid gives 'green light' for £4bn PFI hospital deal
The 'green light' has been given for 15 new NHS hospital developments in a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) deal worth more than £4 billion, it has been announced today. Today's announcement will bring investment in new NHS hospitals to more than £16 billion since 1997, the health department said.

Teenager rescued from sea dies
A 15-year-old boy rescued from the sea off Norfolk has died. A lifeboat crew rescued the boy who had got into difficulties while swimming with another boy off Wells-Next-the-Sea, Norfolk. He was located by the lifeboat and was airlifted to hospital. But he later died shortly after being admitted to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

Teens held over fatal stabbing
Two teenagers are being questioned after a 21-year-old man of mixed-race was stabbed to death in what police have described as a racially motivated stabbing. The man, who has not yet been named, was stabbed during a fight at Byron Street, in Garston, Merseyside on Sunday at around 1pm.
