Quarry Fall Teen Dies
An 18-year-old has died after falling into water at a Warwichshire quarry last night.
After being pulled from the water, emergency workers declared him dead at the scene.
Two other teens were taken to University Hospital in Coventry (pictured) suffering the early symptoms of hypothermia.
A third teenager was also taken to hospital suffering from shock.
It is believed the dead teenager was with a group of friends when the incident happened at Boon's Quarry in Nuneaton.
The victim's friends, who were all on a five-mile trek, attempted a rescue as firefighters, paramedics and the police helicopter were also called to the quarry.
A Warwickshire Police spokesman said: "Police, ambulance and fire and rescue officers worked together to rescue the man.
"However, he was declared dead shortly after he was pulled from the water."
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "An emergency call was received that stated a person had fallen off a cliff at a quarry, and was subsequently missing.
"The incident support officer was on scene within four minutes of the emergency call and found several teenagers at the quarry.
"Ambulance crews, the fire and rescue service and the police, along with the police helicopter, also arrived on scene to help in the operation and a man was found at the bottom of the cliff in water.
"He was pulled from the water and resuscitation attempts were carried out by paramedics.
"Unfortunately despite the best efforts of ambulance crews nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.
"Two other teenage boys who had also been in the water attempting to rescue their friend were treated at the scene for the effects of being in cold water and the early symptoms of hypothermia."
A fire service boat was used to take the patients across the quarry to a waiting ambulance.
