Family In Japan For Murdered Briton's Anniversary
The family of a British teacher murdered in Japan have returned to the country to mark the second anniversary of her death.
Lindsay Ann Hawker, 22, from Brandon, near Coventry, went missing on 25 March 2007. Murder suspect Tatsuya Ichihashi has never been found.
Her body was found buried in a bath of sand on Ichihashi's balcon. The 22-year-old had been giving the suspect English lessons in a Tokyo coffee shop.
Her parents Bill and Julia Hawker and their other daughters Lisa and Louise have travelled to Tokyo to retrace her final steps.
A family statement read: "Returning to Japan is not a decision that we have taken lightly.
"It is the hardest of things to do. But we will continue to fight together, doing whatever we can, to ensure that he is caught and that we get justice for Lindsay."
Miss Hawker's family have been retracing her steps in Tokyo as part of a Channel 4 documentary, spokeswoman Amanda Stocks has said.
"Lisa says she feels closer to Lindsay here because it’s the last place Lindsay was. Julia finds it very very hard to be here, especially as it was Mother's Day yesterday," she said.
"When we are here the profile of the case goes up and we get reported sightings [of Itchihashi] on the website and things happen."
The Hawkers will spend five days in Tokyo, meeting police staff, handing out fliers, and calling on the people of Japan to help track down Ichihashi.
