Man Shot Dead In London Cafe

A murder investigation is underway after a man was shot dead in broad daylight at a south east London café.

According to witnesses, the gunman walked up to the victim in the D A Sandwich café in Mottingham, said "hello" then shot him in the back of the head.

He then told staff to call police before sitting down on the café floor and waiting for officers to arrest him, witnesses have said.

The victim, believed to be in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene on Wednesday afternoon, shortly before 3.45pm.

Armed police were called the café after a member of the public dialled 999.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed a man in his 40s was arrested and a firearm was recovered.

Officers believe they know the name of the victim, but he has not yet been formally identified.

A Met spokesman said: "We were called just after 3.45pm yesterday [Wednesday] to reports of a man in possession of a firearm at the D A Sandwich Cafe in Court Road, Mottingham.

"They discovered a man inside the premises who was in possession of a weapon and a victim suffering a gunshot wound."
