Ivan 'Desperately Missed', Cameron Tells Colleagues

Tory leader David Cameron has spoken of his grief for the first time since the untimely passing of his six-year-old son last week.

Ivan Cameron suffered from a rare form of epilepsy and severe cerebral palsy. The child, who received round the clock care, died in hospital last Wednesday.

His funeral is due to take place tomorrow.

Last week's Prime Minister's Questions was suspended in memory of the boy, who was Mr Cameron and his wife Samantha's eldest child.

Speaking to party colleagues in a weekly email bulletin, the Opposition leader spoke of the void now in his life, which is "so big words can't describe."

Mr Cameron and his family have kept a low public profile since the Ivan's death.

He went on to say in the message: "We didn't expect to lose him so young and so suddenly. He leaves a hole in our life so big that words can't describe it. Bed time, bath time, meal time - nothing will feel the same again."

He added: "We console ourselves knowing that he won't suffer anymore, that his end was quick, and that he is in a better place. But we all just miss him so desperately."

The Queen and Gordon Brown led tributes to young Ivan, who was described as a "wonderfully special and beautiful boy".

Mr Cameron, who has two other children, thanked all those who have sent message to the family.

"Sam and I have been overwhelmed by all the letters, cards, emails and flowers we have received about Ivan," he said.

"Sending an e-mail this week just gives us both a chance to say a big 'thank you'. It means a lot to know that others are thinking of us and him."
