Man Questioned Over Woman's Murder

A convicted rapist wanted by police in connection to the murder of a prostitute, has been returned to prison.

A nationwide alert was sounded after Peter McDonagh, 44, went missing from the West Yorkshire bail hostel on 11 February.

He handed himself in to police in Canterbury on Friday.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed the 44-year-old had been returned to custody for breaching the terms of his parole.

Over the weekend, officers had been questioning him over the death of Michaela Hague, a prostitute who was killed in Sheffield on 5 November 2001.

The 25-year-old mother-of-one died following a knife attack in the Spital Fields area.

She had been stabbed 19 times in her back and neck in a secluded car park.

Pc Richard Twigg radioed details of the man back to base as he cradled the woman. He later wrote the description down on his hand as Ms Hague was taken to the Northern General Hospital where she died that night.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "South Yorkshire Police detectives have questioned a 44-year-old man over the last two days as part of the Michaela Hague murder investigation.

"Further inquiries are still being made in relation to the 2001 murder."
