Liverpool Confirms Parry Will Depart Club
Liverpool FC Chief Executive Rick Parry is to leave his post at the end of the season, after 12 years with the club.
His departure - "by mutual consent" - was confirmed today on the Reds' website.
The 54-year-old will stay on until the end of the season to ensure a "smooth transition" can take place.
It has been reported his exit is not related to the power struggle with manager Rafa Benitez, but is linked to the breakdown in his relationship with joint owner Tom Hicks.
American businessman Hicks last year called for Parry's resignation. However, co-owner George Gillett resisted the demands.
Parry had previously branded Hicks' requests as "offensive", but he has now decided it is the right time to leave the club.
Benitez has so far refused to sign a new four-and-a-half year contract, due to Parry's involvement in transfer business in the club.
In a statement released by the club, Parry said: "I have had 12 very exciting years at Liverpool and am extremely proud of what has been achieved by the club over that period.
"The victory in Madrid [1-0 against Real, on Wednesday] was a wonderful reminder of the many high points we have experienced and adds to the moments that make Liverpool and its magnificent fans so special."
Gillett is continuing to search for buyers for his 50% stake in Liverpool, a quest that is likely to have influenced Parry's departure "by mutual consent".
Liverpool Co-Chairman Tom Hicks said today: "Rick's commitment to Liverpool Football Club is epitomised by his desire to ensure that this transitional period is managed efficiently and we are grateful to him for his help. He will always remain a friend of the football club."
Fellow Co-Chairman George Gillett added: "I would like to thank Rick for his significant service to the Club and the assistance he has given us since we joined Liverpool. He has been integral to the club's success over the past decade and leaves with our best wishes for the future."
