Man Arrested After Body Find
A man has been arrested after a body was found at a flat in Aberdeen. Police and the Scottish Ambulance Service were called to an incident at the flat on Tullos Circle, in the Torry area, in the early hours of Sunday. Officers found the body of a 41-year-old man inside and are treating the death as suspicious. Grampian Police said a 39-year-old man had been charged with murder and was due to appear in court in Aberdeen later.
Reform Of Health Professions' Regulators
The new General Chiropractic Council, the third new council set up this year in a series of reforms to professional regulators, takes effect today. Reforms are being introduced to healthcare regulators help to ensure that councils act fairly and robustly, and are seen to be independent. The White Paper "Trust, Assurance and Safety", published in February 2007, put forward proposals that the councils of regulatory bodies who are responsible for setting and promoting standards for health professionals within the UK, should revise their structure and appointment procedures. Since the start of 2009 new council membership and structures for three healthcare regulatory bodies have been introduced - the Nursing & Midwifery Council, the General Medical Council, both of which came into being on 1 January and now, the General Chiropractic Council.
Man Dead After Taxi Fall
A 27-year-old man has died after receiving head injuries in a late night fall from a taxi. South Wales Police were called to Afan Valley Road in Cwmavon, near Port Talbot, at 2330 GMT on Friday. The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to Morriston Hospital, Swansea, where he died. Officers are appealing for witnesses to the incident or to the driving of a white R registration Ford Mondeo estate to contact them on 01656 655555.
Teen 'Serious But Stable' After Shooting
A 17-year-old boy is in a serious but stable condition after being shot in south-east London. Police were called to Aberfeldy House in John Ruskin Street in Camberwell on Sunday afternoon following reports that a teenager had been shot. He was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service. A Metropolitan Police spokesman said no-one has been arrested. The shooting is being investigated by the Met's Operation Trident team. Operation Trident deals with gun crime in London's black community.
Independent Review Of Corporate Governance
The Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform and the Financial Services Secretary to the Treasury today announced a review to recommend measures to improve the corporate governance of UK banks, particularly with regard to risk management. The review is being chaired by the former financial services regulator, Sir David Walker. It will examine board management of risk (including the effectiveness of risk and audit committees), incentives to manage risk in bank remuneration policies, the competences needed on bank boards, board practices and structures, and the role played by institutional shareholders. The review will give preliminary conclusions to commissioning Ministers in the autumn and final recommendations by the end of the year.

Ecstasy Could Be Reclassified By Advisory Panel
A government advisory body is set to discuss whether ecstasy should be downgraded from a Class A drug to Class B, against adverse advice from senior UK police officers. The Advisory Council's specialist drugs body has received a written request from police to maintain the illegal substance as a Class A drug.

Investigation Launched Into Hotel Body Find
A murder investigation has been launched following the discovery of a woman's body in a Hull hotel room. Police said they were called to the Ibis hotel on Osborne Street at 13:00 on Sunday, where they discovered the body of a woman. She is yet t be identified.

Police Identify Body Found In Forth
Police have confirmed that the body found in the Firth of Forth on Sunday is that of missing man Charles McLachlan. Mr McLachlan, 39, went missing from his home in West Lothian on June 10.

UK Troops Get Boost To Personal Protection
British troops fighting in the frontline are to receive new body armour and helmets this autumn, it has been announced. Over 10,000 sets of the enhanced Mark 7 helmet and the Osprey Assault body armour have been ordered from companies across the UK, under initial contracts worth around £16 million.
