Carol Thatcher Faces BBC Ban After 'Golliwog' Remark
The BBC has announced it has 'no plans' to use Carol Thatcher as a contributor on the One Show, after it emerged she referred to a tennis player as a "golliwog".
Thatcher, the daughter of former Prime Minister Lady Thatcher, made the remark during a private discussion with the BBC 1's presenter Adrian Chiles and other guests, in the green room after filming for the One Show.
According to reports Thatcher - winner of the ITV1 reality series I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here! In 2005 - had been talking to the One Show host and other guess about the Australian Open tennis tournament, when described an unnamed player a "golliwog".
Thatcher was immediately challenged about the remark according to reports, but she only apologised yesterday dismissing the comment as a "joke".
A spokesman for the corporation said: "There are no confirmed plans for Carol to be working on the One Show at the present time.
"It's a very pressing matter for the BBC to get resolved and we are working as hard as we can to do so."
