Robinho Bailed Over Sex Assault Allegation

Premier League footballer Robinho has been arrested and bailed by police investigating an alleged sexual assault.

West Yorkshire Police have confirmed the Manchester City forward, 25, was detained and questioned following an allegation of rape at The Space nightclub in Leeds.

Robinho has denied any wrongdoing, and was released on bail.

Spokesman for the Brazilian international, Chris Nathaniel, said his client was happy to co-operate with police.

"We can confirm that Robinho met the police today, as pre-arranged and as part of a criminal investigation," he said.

"He strenuously denies any allegation of wrongdoing or criminality."

Robinho, whose full name is Robson de Souza, joined Manchester City from Real Madrid in September for £32.5 million, in the biggest transfer deal in British history.

Chelsea had been favourite to land the player, before City stepped in to hijack the deal on the transfer deadline day.

The-25-year-old, who reportedly earns £160,000 a week, has since scored 12 goals for the Manchester side.
