Ex-KGB Spy Buys Paper For 'Nominal Fee'
A Russian ex-KGB agent has succeeded in his bid to buy the London Evening Standard newspaper.
Alexander Lebedev has been given the go ahead to purchase the paper from Lord Rothermere’s Daily Mail & General Trust, for a nominal fee, reported to be £1.
The billionaire businessman is thought to have made an offer for a 76% share of the paper, while its Associated Newspapers division is to retain the remaining share in the new firm, called Evening Standard Ltd.
The Daily Mail & General Trust confirmed London's week-day newspaper would be passed into the hands of Evening Press, a company formed by Mr Lebedev and his son Evgeny Lebedev and owned by Lebedev Holdings.

Ken Livingstone appeals suspension

Government To Buy RBS
The Government is to take up 57.9% ownership of the Royal Bank of Scotland. The government will pay about £15bn for the majority stake in RBS after shareholders failed to buy a large proportion of the new shares the bank had offered. It will also buy £5bn of preference shares in the bank.

EDF Energy Reduce Gas Prices By 5%
EDF Energy has announced it will cut its gas prices by 5% – becoming the first major supplier in 2012 to announce it will pass on falling wholesale prices to its customers. The company was the last of the major suppliers to raise its energy prices in the autumn.
