Two Charged Over Waiter Murder
Two men have been charged with the murder of a waiter who died in a fight at an east London restaurant. Syed Qamar Islam, 28, died on Friday after suffering head injuries in a brawl involving up to 20 people at the Maida restaurant in Bethnal Green. Bahar Uddin, 19, of Sewardstone Road, and Mohammed Shaubuzzaman, 18, of Wyllen Close, both east London, are due before Thames magistrates on Monday. Five other people arrested over the incident have been released on bail. It is thought Mr Islam may have been trying to break up a fight when he was fatally injured.
Jaguar Suspends Work
Car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover has announced it has halted work at its car plant in Castle Bromwich, Birmingham, for two weeks. The factory assembles all the Jaguar XF, XJ and XK models, and currently employs about 3,500 workers. Workers only returned to the company's Solihull site on Monday after an extended Christmas break. Last week, the firm, which has been asking for government aid, said it would cut 450 UK jobs in the UK because of the slump in car sales. The company, which employs about 15,000 in the UK, said in November that it was facing "unprecedented trading conditions" as global sales for the whole of the car industry fell sharply.
Police Appeal For Missing Man
Police are appealing for help in finding a man who disappeared after taking his wife to work, leaving his car and mobile phone behind him. The 64-year-old man has been missing from his home at Rhewl, near Denbigh, since last Wednesday. Electrician John Oliver Jones returned home after taking his wife to work in Mold, but then disappeared, leaving the property unlocked. Mr Jones recently recovered from a heart operation.
£9m Sexual Health Centre Approved
Plans for a £9m sexual health centre in Edinburgh have been approved by city councillors. The new facility which will be the first of its kind in the UK will be constructed at the Chalmers Hospital in Lauriston. Due for completion in 2010 the unique facility will combine family planning with genito-urinary medicine and allowing patients to be tested, diagnosed and treated under the same roof. Around 50,000 patients a year will pass through the clinics doors.
Martin Bland Appointed As District Judge
Martin Bland has been appointed a District Judge by HM The Queen on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Jack Straw MP. The Right Honourable The Lord Judge, Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales has assigned him to the Northern Circuit, based at Preston County Court with effect from 2 February 2009.

Plans Announced To Make Young People Work For Benefits
The Prime Minister has announced a proposal for 18 to 21-year-olds claiming benefits to do daily work experience. The proposed reform, known as Community Work Programme, would see young people not in work, education or training, required to complete daily work experience, alongside continuing to look for work in order to qualify for benefits.

Man Jailed For Stealing Drs Identity To Work In UK
A 36-year-old man has been jailed after it was found that he stolen a doctor's identity to work in the UK. Levon Mkhitarian was sentenced to a total of six years pleaded guilty to a total of 21 charges: 14 charges of using a copy of a false instrument and seven counts of fraud by making false representations.

UK Construction Output Falls In August
Latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has revealed a fall in construction output for the month of August. In August 2015, output in the UK's construction industry dropped by 4.3% compared with July 2015. Compared with August 2014, it fell by 1.3%, its first year-on-year fall since May 2013. All new work declined by 3.
