Police Appeal For Man Who 'Ignored' Mugged Pensioner

Police have issued an appeal after it emerged a man walked past an 81-year-old woman who asked him for help, as she lay injured on the pavement after being mugged.

Metropolitan Police officers want to trace the man as part of the investigation into the death of Molly Morgan, who suffered fatal injuries after a suspect grabbed her handbag in Harrow, north-west London, on Thursday evening.

She died from subdural haematoma in Northwick Park Hospital eight hours after the incident.

The pensioner also suffered a broken left arm and multiple fractures to the left side of her face, consistent with a fall.

"Whilst in hospital, Mrs Morgan told police that a man walked right past her and didn’t stop, even when she asked for help," Det Ch Insp Jessica Wdsworth said.

"It is our belief that this man, and other people in the area who didn't assist the victim, may tragically not have realised that Mrs Morgan had been attacked and was in considerable pain."

She added: "We know from some witnesses that they had assumed she was merely a drunk on the street."

According to police the woman was targeted at around 8pm in Streatfield Road, Harrow, as she walked home alone.

Property taken during the robbery included a brown plastic shoulder bag containing an empty Sainsbury's carrier bag, an electrical extension lead and a brown and gold 'Primark' umbrella.

Mrs Morgan died in hospital eight hours after the attack.
