Miliband Puts Pressure On Pakistani Authorities

Foreign Secretary David Miliband has called on Pakistani authorities to take action against those responsible for the Mumbai terror attacks.

Mr Miliband told the government of responsibility that rests on its shoulders, and the importance of bringing the murders to justice.

Around 170 were killed when ten gunmen opened fire on various locations across the city in November.

On a visit to India, the Foreign Secretary said all evidence on the attacks pointed to the Pakistan-based group Lashkar-e-Taiba.

However, he said there was no indication that the rampage was sanctioned by the Pakistani state.

Mr Miliband was joined on a tour of capital city Delhi by Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

"We are absolutely clear about the origin of the terrorist attack and the responsibility that exists in Pakistan to bring the perpetrators to justice," said Mr Miliband.

"I have said publicly that I do not believe that the attacks were directed by the Pakistani state and I think it's important to restate that," he added.

According to Indian officials, ten gunmen were from Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Since the attacks relations with Pakistan have been put under severe strain.

Mr Mukherjee said his British counterpart had "stressed the need for concerted international pressure on Pakistan".
