Fatal Shooting During Armed Robbery

One man has died and another is being treated for leg injuries following an armed robbery at a Worcestershire post office this morning.

Three masked men raided the shop in Bromsgrove at around 8.20am, police said.

It is believed one of the offenders was armed with a handgun and another with a sledgehammer.

All three were wearing balaclavas during the incident at the Fairfield store.

"Significant resources have been committed to his inquiry which is in its very early stages," said Detective Superintendent Jon Groves.

"The offenders are dangerous and must not be approached," he warned.

The man who died was reportedly shot in the chest, and passed-away a short time later.

Another man sustained bullet wounds to his leg and is receiving medical treatment.

A nearby school was evacuated following the incident.

A Post Office spokesman said: "We are shocked and appalled at this terrible attack against hard-working people serving the whole community and we are very concerned for the family and will be doing all we can to help them."

It is believed the post office is run by the Welsh family, who moved to the area several years ago.

West Mercia Police have appealed to anyone in the area who saw the silver VW Golf the offenders are believed to have been travelling in to come forward.

The car was later found abandoned nearby.
