Pietersen Arrives Home With Police Escort

Kevin Pietersen has arrived back to Britain from South Africa, following his shock resignation as England cricket captain.

Pietersen, who resigned in controversial circumstances, was given a police escort out of Heathrow airport. He was met by reporters and photographers, however he refused to comment on the situation.

The 28-year-old quit as England skipper, while England coach Peter Moores was also dismissed. It is understood Pietersen resigned before he was sacked, after only five months as captain.

This came after the England Cricket Board (ECB) decided there had been an "irretrievable breakdown of the relationship between captain and coach".

According to reports, Pietersen had given the ECB an ultimatum that he was not prepared to embark on the forthcoming tour of the West Indies under the current management structure.

Andrew Strauss has been named as the new skipper for the tour, however it is not known if he will take charge of the one-day and Twenty20 teams.

A statement is due to be released later with the details of his appointment.
