Appeal After Man Found In Burning Car

Police are appealing for information concerning the death of a man found in a burning car.

Officers were called to reports of a car on fire at Mowlem Trading Estate, near to Leeside Road, N17, shortly after 1:00am on 17 December 2008.

The London Fire Brigade were in attendance extinguishing the fire when they discovered a person inside.

The man inside the car was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe they may know who the deceased is but positive identification has yet to take place.

A post mortem was held on 17 December at Hornsey Mortuary and the cause of death was given as exposure to fire and inhalation of fumes of combustion.

Officers from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are working with the London Fire Brigade to establish the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the person's death. The death is being treated as unexplained at this stage.

Two white men were seen running nearby as the vehicle exploded. We would urgently like these two men to come forward as they may have valuable information surrounding this incident. We would like to stress that we wish to speak to them as witnesses.

Anyone who may have any information regarding this incident should contact DCI Colin Sutton on telephone number 020 8785 8224.
