Man Injured After M6 Collision

The M6 in Birmingham is closed in both directions after a crash involving four lorries, a van and a car, left a man fighting for his life.

Seven people were taken to hospital following the collision between Spaghetti Junction and the Great Barr turning at around 5.40am on Friday.

A lorry travelling north crashed through the central reservation and three other HGVs going north collided with two cars while trying to avoid the out-of-control lorry.

West Midlands Fire Service said four people were trapped in their vehicles after the incident, while the ambulance service confirmed seven people were injured.

The M6 is shut between junctions 6 and 7 northbound and 8 to 6 southbound. Motorists were diverted towards the M5 link at Junction 1.

Six people were treated at the scene and one man was airlifted to hospital by police helicopter after suffering multiple leg and arm injuries.

The southbound carriageway could remain closed until tonight for resurfacing, while the northbound stretch is expected to be reopened this afternoon.
