Stabbing Victim Named

Police investigating the stabbing of a man in Wales, have named the victim as Jason Greening. The 22-year-old was attacked shortly after 10pm on Friday during an altercation between two groups at a house in Mynydd Glas, Nantyffyllon, near Maesteg. Mr Greening, from Pentre, Rhondda, was taken to Bridgend's Princess of Wales hospital but was pronounced dead. Four people are currently being questioned by police, with two of those being held on suspicion of murder.

'Racially Motivated' Attack Investigated

A 23-year-old Asian man has required hospital treatment after what people are treating as "racially motivated" attack in Aberdeen city centre. The victim required hospital treatment for head injuries after the attack in Windmill Brae in the early hours of Saturday. The assailant is described as being in his early 20s with short brown hair and wearing dark clothing. Grampian Police said the attack – close to the junction with Crown Street – was unprovoked.

Thousands More Seats Introduced In Winter Timetable

Over 20,000 trains will be running across the rail network every day when longer, faster trains are introduced under a new winter timetable specified by the Department for Transport, Transport Minister Andrew Adonis announced today. The timetable, which is introduced on December 14, will see an extra 690 trains running on the network every day - a 3.4% increase across England on weekdays, a 5.2% increase for Saturday services and 7.6% more trains running on Sundays.

New Chief Executive Of National Apprenticeship Service

Skills Secretary John Denham and Schools Secretary Ed Balls today announced that Simon Waugh has been appointed the first chief executive of the new National Apprenticeship Service (NAS). The NAS will deliver an expanded apprenticeship programme and will provide a single point of contact for employers who want to offer apprenticeships and for prospective apprentices. The new Children, Skills and Learning Bill announced today in the Queen's Speech will give all suitably qualified young people a legal right to an apprenticeship from 2013. It also sets out in legislation the rights and responsibilities of the new National Apprenticeship Service.
