HSBC Banker In Court Over Wife's Death

A senior banking employee has appeared in court charged with the murder of his wife.

Neil Ellerbeck, 45, from Enfield, north London, is accused of murdering his wife Katherine, 46, at their home. A post mortem examination gave the cause of death as "asphyxiation and manual compression of the neck".

Mr Ellerbeck, who appeared at Enfield Magistrates Court yesterday, worked for HSBC Asset Management as global chief investment officer in the liquidity division.

He was arrested after London Ambulance Service sent a fast response car and an ambulance to the house. Paramedics said Mr llerbeck's wife was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is understood the couple have two children, a 13-year-old son and a daughter, 10. However, they were not thought to be at home at the time.

Mr Ellerbeck was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey court on February 23.
