'Minor Earthquake' Felt In Midlands

A minor earthquake has been felt in some parts of Midlands, according to police.

The earthquake, described by the British Geological Survey (BGS) as "weak", struck at 6pm on Sunday night, after police received reports of it affecting the area between Malvern and Worcester.

The earthquake had a magnitude of 3.6 and the epicentre was close to the town of Bromyard, about 20km west of Worcester, the BGS confirmed.

A spokesman for the British Geological Survey said: "We have had quite a few calls reporting an earthquake so it seems like something.

"The seismologists are looking in to it right now."

The statement added: "The strength of the shaking has been described as moderate, enough to make furniture shake and windows or crockery rattle. Some reports indicate that people were woken from sleep and a few were frightened."

A West Mercia Police spokesman described the earthquake as a "very minor tremor" adding: "We had no reports of damage whatsoever. We have had about 15 to 20 calls from members of the public at most."
