Six Family Members Dead Following M6 Crash
A family of six people have been killed when their car burst into flames in a collision with other vehicles on a motorway in Cheshire, police have said.
Four young children travelling with their parents, died on the M6 in Cheshire after their car burst into flames following a crash involving three lorries and two cars.
A 46-year-old Portuguese lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He will be questioned through an interpreter.
Officers said the car carrying the family had left Birmingham on Monday evening to their home in North Wales, with six people in it, including a "very small" fourth child.
A police spokeswoman said: "Cheshire Police would like to confirm that it is believed that there were a total of six people in the car, six fatalities and it is believed that they were from Llandudno, north Wales. Family identification has still not been made at this stage.
He added: "The only reason we are saying this is because six people were in the car when it left its destination in Birmingham and there was no reason to think anybody got out of it on the way.
"You can't possibly imagine the state of the car. It has gone under the truck and then gone on fire. There's not an awful lot left."
Meanwhile, a man in his 30s has died following a fatal crash on a junction along the some section of motorway just before 9am yesterday.
The tragedy occurred when a white van driver hit a bridge parapet, between junctions 17 and 18.
Police have appealed for witnesses to both accidents to contact them.
