Talks To Avert Further Scottish Rail Strikes

Talks to avert further strike action by rail signal workers on Thursday are to commence later.

Network Rail bosses will meet with Rail Maritime and Transport (RMT) union members at the conciliation body Acas's Glasgow offices at 2pm.

Scottish train services have been severely disrupted due to a walk-out by the union members caused over disagreements surrounding roster changes and compulsory safety assessments.

The first round of strikes will end at lunchtime today, but unless an agreement is reached a second 24 hour strike will commence on Thursday.

First Minister Alex Salmond said: "It must be a good sign that both sides are willing to resume talks and I welcome this development."

No trains have been running north of Stirling however a limited number of services have been operating between Glasgow and Edinburgh and in the central belt this morning.

First ScotRail have advised customers to check its website for revised timetables.
