Baby Killed After Car Mounted Pavement
Police in East London are appealing for information after a car mounted the kerb and knocked down and killed a 15-month-old baby.
Finlay Woods was with his mother and grandmother, on Cavendish Road, Chingford, when a black 4X4 vehicle mounted the kerb.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "It is believed the vehicle mounted the kerb and then crashed into the baby."
The baby was brought to the Royal London Hospital at Whitechapel by the London air-ambulance helicopter, where he later died.
London Fire Brigade said they were called following reports a child in a buggy had been trapped under a car. However, a member of the public had managed to free the baby before they arrived.
A 39-year-old woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving; drink driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs. She remains in custody.
Police are urging any witnesses who were in Cavendish Road at 3.20pm on Thursday to contact them on: 020 8345 4905.
