Poster Appeal Launched In Couple's Murder Hunt

Police have launched a dual language poster appeal for more information about the brutal killing of a young Chinese Couple in Newcastle.

The poster - written in English and Mandarin - has offered a reward of £5,000 for information leading to the conviction of the couple's killers.

Shortly after 4.30pm on Saturday August 9, the bodies of Xi Zhou and Zhen Xing Yang were discovered at the home they shared.

The couple died after a knife attack. Mr Zhen had been tortured before he was stabbed to death.

Their cat is also believed to have been drowned.

Northumbria Police Det Supt Steve Wade, leading the investigation, said: "It is now almost three weeks since the bodies of Xi Zhou and Zhen Xing Yang were discovered.

"Since then officers have been working tirelessly to catch their killers.

"They have been examining forensic evidence, CCTV, mobile phone and banking records, computer and website data.

"We are building a picture of Xi Zhou and Zhen Xing Yang and possible motives behind their deaths.

"I hope that anybody who has information and has yet to come forward will see the new appeal and contact my officers."

A female witness who was walking home at 5pm past Croydon Road on Thursday August 7, less than one hour after Xi Zhou was last seen alive, has spoken to police.

The witness saw three people standing at the front gate to 8 Croydon Road.
