Fourth Man Arrested In PM Plot
A fourth man has been arrested over an alleged plot to kill the Prime Minister, according to police sources.
The 25-year-old, from Blackburn, Lancashire, was held under the Terrorism Act 2006.
The man is the fourth member of a suspected 'terror cell' held by detectives in the past fortnight.
A police source said officers were investigating threats to kill Prime Minister Gordon Brown, (pictured).
However, it is not believed that there was any concrete plot in place.
Officers had discovered a written threat on an extremist jihadi website earlier this year.
Two men were arrested at Manchester Airport on August 14 and a third man was held in Accrington, Lancashire on the same day. All the men were in their twenties.
Police have until Thursday to charge, release or seek an extension to the three men's custody.
Police sources say all four of the men are linked to the threats to kill Gordon Brown.
It is understood officers have travelled to Scandinavia as part of their investigation.
Specialist counter-terrorism officers are examining an address in Whalley Range, north of the town centre.
Meanwhile, in the USA, police are investigating whether a man arrested with rifles, ammunition and drugs near the Democratic Convention may have been plotting to kill Barack Obama.
Officers in Denver, Colorado, have confirmed a total of three men are being held in connection with drugs and weapons offences.
However, as in the case of the 'threat' on the UK Prime Minister, security services are said to be confident there is no "credible" threat to Mr Obama.
